Yasumasa Morimura (森村泰昌, June 11, 1951 - ) is a Japanese appropriation artist. He was born in Osaka and graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts in 1978. Since 1985, Yasumasa Morimura has primarily shown his work in international solo exhibitions, although he has been involved in various group exhibitions.
Yasumasa Morimura borrows images from historical artists (ranging from Edouard Manet to Rembrandt to Cindy Sherman), and inserts his own face and body into them. His work engages with issues of gender, and challenges both Western and Japanese notions of good taste.

Wim Delvoye is an outrageous Belgian artist, born in 1965, I came to know him since he is collaborating with my office for a new project. This is one of the first work, named Cloaca. The title follows the function as these machines are human made digestive-objects which do works exactly in the same way a digestive apparat would do, with also the same result. Noble but stinking poo. I wonder if anyone in the near future will do what Piero Manzoni did few years ago by transforming the 'artist's shit' into 'artist's mechanical shit'...news on the project with Conix Architects to come soon...

Cloud City by Atelier Hapsitus

An essentially sustainable project standing at a height of approximately 300 metres, the Cloud is a 20000m2 landscape-in-the-sky comprising a lake, gardens, rotating bridges, spiraling walkways and terraces, an auditorium and sky-sports platform. The Cloud is approached on ground level from an esplanade with a pool reflecting a forest of inclined columns reaching up to the huge, translucent floating island. Access to the Cloud is gained through a few non-inclined tubular shafts, which double as structural support. In collaboration with ARUP AGU (Advanced Geometry Unit), significantly creative technological solutions are being developed for its realization.
The Cloud of Dubai is one of a series of Gulf region projects created by Nadim Karam and Atelier Hapsitus. It is inspired by the nomads, whose lives were defined by the rigours of their relation to sun, water and sand, and whose travels followed the borderless movement of clouds. The Cloud is a trip, a playful adventure in the city. It is a horizontal presence on an elevated platform, an antithesis to the sum of skyscrapers spreading over the entire region. The Cloud is a dream, suspended between artificiality and reality.

Kawauchi, who is originally from Japan, is one of my favourite photographers. I discovered her by chance a few years ago when I went to see her exhibition in Paris at the Fondation Cartier. At that time she was presenting a very deep and delicate work about the cycle of life throughout some pictures narrating the story of her family in a period of 5 years; this installation was also accompanied by a soundtrack that another japanese artist made, the title of this opera was 'Cui Cui'. I was so touched by her work that I stayed in that room for about 2 hours, then I got out. Also by chance I had the opportunity to see 'Cui Cui' again, a couple of years ago at the Photographer's gallery in London. Although my feeling had changed a lot, and lot of water passed under the bridges, I felt exactly the same way I felt the first time, and I almost cried (note: men don't produce tears, it is always something due to the wind...). Gorgeous. Recently I bought her last book, I alos gave a copy as a present and it was absolutely bang on!

Studio JSPR_Cover Tiles

The Cover-Tiles concept came from the idea of exposing the insides of the wall on an aesthetic way. The pipes, connections and water taps, which are normally enclosed in the wall, are now all visible on the outside. They show the way waterlines run under the tiles and how the raw technical system of water lines, taps, showerhead and connections works and looks like.

The series exist of 5 different 15 x 15 ceramic tiles, which cover the installation underneath. Straight tiles, curved tiles, wall plate tiles, water tap tiles and showerhead tiles. The Tiles are separately available to create your own free arrangement. Of course, (pre-bended) waterpipes and the inside of showerheads can be delivered as well.
The Tiles are produced by Corunum, a prominent company that produces hand made ceramics for designers.
